Title:
It Was a Dark and Stormy Day - Jerrold Seckler - Monthly Safety Meeting at PWK by CEPA
Topic:
Thunderstorms May Be the Most Formidable Risk in Flying - However, with Some Knowledge We Can Manage
Date and Time:
Wednesday, June 25, 2025, starting at 19:00 Central Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Jerrold Seckler, MD, ATP, CFI/CFII, AGI, IGI
Brief Description:

Two of the most hazardous threats to aircraft are thunderstorms and icing. Dr. Seckler discussed the risk and management of icing last January. Now, he will take on the beast of unfathomable energy, thunderstorms. One thunderstorm was measured at about 1.3 billion volts with a charging time of only 6 minutes. Jerry will explain how they form, forecasting where they'll be, and how to avoid them in flight.

Additional Event Information & Acknowledgement of Industry Sponsor(s):

CEPA’s purpose is to promote flying, proficiency, and safety. The intent is to create a community of pilots willing to share their perspectives, provide recognition, foster communications, promote safety, and build proficiency in instrument flying. Participate in this excellent forum where we think through the various options from the comfort of your chair, firmly on the ground... before it is you sitting in the cockpit.

We meet monthly when pilots (and would-be pilots) network and share knowledge and experiences to keep our heads in the game.

If you aren't yet a member of CEPA, please consider joining. Your dues help pay for these Safety Seminars.
