Title:
The Magic of WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System)
Topic:
Learn the History and Function of Gps Augmentation Systems.
Date and Time:
Tuesday, June 17, 2025, starting at 19:00 Pacific Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Ray Stratton
Brief Description:

We know there are satellites up there, but that is only good enough for navigating your car. Pilots and the FAA really rely on even more precise GPS WAAS location data. Add some different satellites and some ground stations and lots of math and we get WAAS precision. The WAAS system was developed right here in Fullerton at Hughes Aircraft (now Raytheon). Discover how this enhanced system really works, beyond just the magic box that drives a display on the panel.

Ray Stratton is a local pilot and President of the Smoke Eagles Flying Club. Prior to retirement, he worked at Hughes Aircraft on projects involving navigation systems.
