Title:
June Topic of the Month - Regulatory Roadblock Reduction
Topic:
Safer Flight Through Implementing Innovative Safety-Enhancing Technologies at Reduced Cost in GA Airplanes
Date and Time:
Monday, June 30, 2025, starting at 18:30 Eastern Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Jay Seward, FAASTeam Representative
Brief Description:

There was a time when regulatory roadblocks added significant cost to the installation of potentially life saving technologies to general aviation airplanes.  Those times have changed.  In 2016, the FAA overhauled airworthiness standards for general aviation airplanes by allowing ASTM International consensus standards for the certification of normal category Part 23 airplanes.  This presentation will explain what that means and address the results of this changed approach.  You can now find more affordable autopilots, GPS navigators, Terrain Elevation and Obstacle databases, graphic displays, and Angle of Attack indicators.  After reviewing all those items, we’ll focus on Angle of Attack options and their positive impact on Loss of Control (LOC) accidents as a positive result of regulatory reform and as a practical, affordable safety measure.  Come and enjoy the fellowship and discourse in this monthly meeting.
