Title:
Aeronautical Decision Making and SRM
Topic:
Decision-Making is an Essential Pilot Skill.
Date and Time:
Thursday, January 25, 2024, starting at 14:00 Eastern Standard Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Master Pilot Sam Gross
Brief Description:

Even “Small” Decisions Can Have a Large Impact on Flight Safety.

Many pilots get in trouble not because of deficient “physical airplane” or “mental airplane” skills, but because of faulty aeronautical decision-making (ADM) and risk management skills. Why should that be so? One reason is that ADM, unlike physical airplane and mental airplane skills, is an invisible process. An instructor or examiner can easily observe and evaluate your ability to land the aircraft (physical airplane) or your proficiency in programming the GPS (mental airplane). ADM, on the other hand, is a process that takes place inside the pilot’s brain. Because ADM is harder to observe and evaluate than basic aircraft control and systems skills, it sometimes gets less emphasis than it deserves.

Pilots have received little training on how to successfully manage a sudden and stressful event that requires quick and accurate decision-making. Aeronautical decision-making training can improve the outcome of these types of events. Join us for a discussion on these topics and increase your ability to properly assess risks and make the right decisions.
