Title:
What Wake?
Topic:
The Dangerous and Invisible Hazard of Helicopter Wake Turbulence
Date and Time:
Saturday, September 9, 2023, starting at 09:30 Eastern Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
FAASTeam Rep. Andrew Stephanic
Brief Description:

This event will be an open forum and presentation discussing the most available data regarding accidents that have resulted in loss of control from helicopter wake turbulence. It will be an in depth look into the causation, mitigation, and the behavior of rotor vortices specific to helicopters. We want to provide the opportunity for an open and constructive discussion on local helicopter operations and help develop strategies to mitigate wake turbulence incidents. With limited and mostly outdated FAA publications available to the public, helicopter operations can often seem ambiguous and unpredictable, making this is a great event for student and professional pilots alike.
