Title:
FAASTeam July 2023 Topic Of The Month - Fly The Aircraft First!
Topic:
The Importance of Maintaining Aircraft Control At All Times.
Speaker(s):
Stephen (Steve) Bateman, CFI, LSRM, Ph.D.
Brief Description:
Background:
NTSB accident data strongly suggests that distractions, poor decision making and inappropriate responses to in-flight situations are key precursors to loss of control accidents.
Pilots must maintain aircraft control at all times (aviate). Then take the time to restore situational awareness (navigate), and only then worry about talking to ATC or whomever (communicate). In other words: Fly the Aircraft First!
Learning Points:
- Understand the impact of distractions, poor decision making and inappropriate responses in aircraft accidents.
- Information on prioritization and dealing with distractions.
- An alternative definition of proficiency.
This—and more—will be covered in this interactive, in-person safety session, and you'll receive WINGS credit for attending!
