Brief Description:
The water safety training consists of a classroom portion and water exercises in a pool. The class will be held at the Fairbanks FSDO, 4419 Airport Way (across from Pikes), 9am – 12noon. We will meet at UAF Pool, 1890 Tanana Loop E. at 1pm and will be finished by 5pm. You must attend the classroom portion to participate in the pool activities.
The pool training exercises include:
- Escape from a simulated aircraft submersion
- Personal floatation device deployment
- Raft boarding techniques
- Experience an emergency breathing device
You will do the pool elements in your street clothes, so plan accordingly; bring a complete change of clothes, towel, and anything else you choose. There are lockers you may use; bring your own lock if you wish. The pool water temperature is 79.5°F; plan to be in the water about 60 minutes to complete all segments.
For optimum training experience, you are encouraged to view the video titled Surviving on Open Water, located at https://www.faa.gov/pilots/training/airman_education/aircrewsurvivalvideos prior to this training.
