"Senior Pilots: How Age Affects Performance" with Joe Biviano
A VC99's Pilot Proficiency Class
Wednesday, May 13 7:00 - 9:00 PM
The average pilot is approximately 46 years old and getting older. As pilot age, their performance degrades and is not the same as when they were in their thirties. In the airline industry a pilot’s age is a limiting factor but in General Aviation operations under Part 91 there is no defined age where pilots are required to stop flying.
Joe Biviano will review some historical data from the FAA archives explaining how age affects pilot performance. After reviewing some factors which demonstrates how age affects pilots's flying skills and the warning signs to look for, he will suggest strategies to compensate for the effects of age as pilots continue to pursue their passion for flight.
Instructor: Joseph J. Biviano, ATP, CFI, CFII, MEI, A&P, flew A-4's in the US Navy and then spent 35 years at Lockheed Martin as a test pilot and wind tunnel test engineer on a variety of projects and positions, including • Structural Test Engineer • Reliability Centered Maintenance Engineer • Flight Safety Engineer • Flight Test Engineering • Flight Test Engineering Test Pilot, X-55 Demonstrator. Joe has a B.S. in Aero Engineering and an M.S. in Aviation Safety Management. He is a recipient of the FAA Pilot Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award and has been giving aviation safety seminars for over twenty years. He is a member of SETP (Society of Experimental Test Pilots). He is the owner of a PA28-140, Thorp T-18 experimental, and is building an RV-6. Joe has logged over 8,000 hours and has over 3,300 hours of flight instruction.
