Driving:  Exit 101 Freeway at Los Posas, head south on Los Posas. Turn right at traffic light at Pleasant Valley.  Turn right at traffic light at Airport Way. Dept of Airport Building is last building on the left where Airport Way dead ends at Durley.  Flying: A three minute walk from the walk-through gate adjacent to Channel Island Aviation.  Walk out to Durley, turn left on Durley.  The Dept of Airports Building is on your right at the intersection of Durley & Airport Way.

A VC99's Pilot Proficiency Class

This class is not a lesson on intentionally crashing an airplane, rather it covers the finer points of the best way to crash-land an airplane. There are techniques that pilots can employ to increase survivability and reduce injury when things go bad, and they are forced to make an emergency landing. The class will stress the importance of reducing the main injury-producing factor, deceleration forces, and how to use the aircraft and terrain for this purpose. The class will cover various emergency landing techniques for various flight and terrain conditions.

Instructor: Brian Schiff, ATP, CFI, CFII, MEI, AGI, IGI, is a captain on an Airbus 320 for a major US airline and is type-rated on the Boeing 727, 757, 767, DC-9, MD-80, Airbus 321, CL-65, LR-JET, and G-V. Brian’s roots are deeply planted in general aviation where he has flown a wide variety of aircraft. He holds several flight instructor ratings and is recognized for his enthusiasm and ability to teach in way that simplifies complex procedures and concepts. He is a member of the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) and has been actively instructing since earning his flight and ground instructor certificates in 1985.  Brian has been an FAA-designated examiner. He attended San Jose State University, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and his Master of Science Degree in Aviation Safety from the University of Central Missouri. He regularly presents seminars about aviation safety and techniques to student and professional pilots.

This program is one of a series in the Ventura County 99s 20^th Annual Pilot Proficiency Classes, an annual series of approximately 20-25  seminars and programs from February to May. There is a fee for all classes except the February 19^th "Reflections of a Test Pilot" with Tom Morgenfeld. Some classes fill to capacity quickly. Please register for the seminar at least 24 hours in advance to ensure we have seats for everyone at  http://www.vc99sclasses.com.  We cannot guarantee a seat  to people who do not register in advance.  If seats are available, we will gladly accept payments and registration from walk-ins at the door. 

Unless otherwise indicated on the registration web site http://www.vc99sclasses.com, all classes meet in the upstairs meeting room of the Department of Airports, 555 Airport Way, Camarillo, CA 93010, on the field at KCMA.  There is no wireless network available to attendees in the classroom.  If you want Internet access during a class, you will need to use your own data plan or bring or activate a hotspot.
