Our speaker will talk about how fire fighting airspace is organized, about frequency monitoring if you have to transit a firefighting area. Checking NOTAMS is important to make sure you stay out of active traffic zones.  Airports that are used in the bay area to fight fires include Livermore and Palo Alto. RHV is not used because it is so busy, perhaps the second busiest GA airport in the state.

Mike Mathieson is the Battalion Chief at the Alma Helitack Base at Lexington reservoir. They have a fire station and fire engine, 3 helipads and a replenishing facility. Mike rode on CALFIRE helicopters fighting fires for 12 years, and has been with CALFIRE a total of 24 years.
