Title:
Mountain Flying with a Smidge of Soaring/North Las Vegas ATC Tower update
Topic:
North Las Vegas Tower Update and Mountain flying from the standpoint of a glider pilot, soaring techniques for airplane pilots.
Date and Time:
Thursday, June 27, 2019, starting at 19:00 Pacific Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Colin Jeffry Aro, and ATC
Brief Description:

Meet one of our local North Las Vegas FAA Air Traffic controllers.  Hear about what issues are affecting tower operations at VGT.

Mountain flying is an important topic - the Nall report published by AOPA tells us that the accident rate at mountain airports is approximately 175% higher than in the flatlands. In the Sierra Nevada (and other soaring locations), glider pilots can keep their aircraft aloft for hours and execute cross-countries covering hundreds of miles all without the benefit of an engine! The approach taken in this seminar is this: If glider pilots can use their skills, knowledge, and abilities to keep their aircraft aloft for hours without an engine, then light airplane pilots can use the same techniques to be not only safer, but perhaps more efficient light airplane pilots.
