Robert Shafer is on the National Staff of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary as Director of the National Response Directorate. His responsibilities include supervision and promotion of all aspects of the National Auxiliary Aviation, Surface Operations and Telecommunications programs. He is also the

District Directorate Chief of Response and the Staff Officer for Aviation of the Ninth Coast Guard District, Central Region. Mr. Shafer holds a commercial pilot certificate, with ratings for instruments, single and multi engine airplanes, and helicopters. He is a Flight Instructor and FAASTeam Representative. He has been trained and certified in Aircraft Ditching, Underwater Egress and Survival. He and his wife, Susan, (also a pilot), are the proud owners two airplanes and a helicopter.
