Brief Description:

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is pleased to present the AUVSI Trusted Operator Program™ (TOP). This 60-minute presentation focuses on safety, reliability and professionalism in the commercial use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) by coordinating the most important applicable standards. Such standards include federal aviation regulations, local and state protocols, and consensus-based industry standards. Students will gain an overview of the program to include its benefits to Remote Pilots and end users in terms of theoretical knowledge contributing to UAS

flight safety.

The Trusted Operator Program™ uses a comprehensive set of protocols from many relevant standards, that have been agreed upon by the commercial UAS industry as essential to follow for safe, reliable, professional commercial UAS operations. Some of these standards include: aviation regulations, local & state regulations, industry best practice, and guidance material.

Joseph S. Cerreta, Assistant Professor, Department of Flight, College of Aeronautics, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

Dr. Joseph Cerreta is an Assistant Professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - Worldwide. He has 23 years of UAS experience as an instructor, manager, and director with UAS programs for the Department of Defense, Public Safety, and Academia.

Dr. Cerreta developed a UAS emergency management response capability with the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management, which also resulted in the National Weather Service’s use of UAS live-stream data specifically for tornado damage assessment for the first time in NWS history. He developed courses for building UAS flightcrew standardization programs for Public Safety Agencies. He is also certified as a Trusted Operator Program TM (TOP) Level 3 Remote Pilot Instructor and co-developed the TOP certification course for Embry-Riddle as the first University to obtain this certification.
