Title:
Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast
Topic:
T minus 14 months and counting
Date and Time:
Wednesday, November 28, 2018, starting at 19:00 Pacific Standard Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Matt Debski CFI
Brief Description:

Jan 2020 is just around the corner and if you want to fly, you need to be equipped with ADS-B. Many avionics shops are booked so plan accordingly.

ADS-B or Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B for short), will replace the ground-based radar system used by ATC to track air traffic throughout the US.

ADS-B is a foundational component  of the FAA's NextGen system for improving the safety and efficiency of the National Airspace.  By January 2020, ADS-B Out capability will be required in all airspace where a Mode C transponder is required today.  Today, ADS-B In receivers offer free traffic and weather information.

This seminar will discuss what ADS-B is and its benefits.  We'll take a look at how you can take advantage of ADS-B In capabilities today as an aircraft renter and important limitations.  We'll also discuss some options for aircraft owners to equip for the 2020 ADS-B Out mandate.

Matt Debski, an M.I.T graduate and software engineer at Google, has a Cessna 182 online with the San Carlos Flight Center.  He had an ADS-B Out transponder installed in this plane in 2016. He is also an outstanding CFI.

This event qualifies for FAA Wings credit.
