Join Tom Ricks, a VFR pilot for 42 years as he discusses his flight in his 1971 Cessna 182 to the Grand Canyon. He flew to the South Rim and as well as the BAR 10 Ranch on the North Rim. The Grand Canyon has a unique combination of geologic color and a river 277 miles long and is a scenic wonder that can only be truly appreciated from above.
Tom will discuss choice of altitudes above the terrain based on air density and temperature, how to navigate routes to avoid temporary flight restrictions while paying attention to special flight rules. Hazards to consider when planning this flight include heating effect, turbulence, density altitude, aircraft performance, environment, terrain and equipment.
