Brief Description:

For our May member safety meeting, we welcome air traffic controllers from Denver Center ARTCC for a conversation about all the services provided to pilots by ATC. Learn more about what VFR services you can expect in the enroute environment, and what is meant by the phrase VFR advisories. You’ll also find out what controllers can see on their monitoring equipment, and how they may or may not be able to help with weather and deviations in mountainous terrain. Finally, they will share general best practices for operating within the National Airspace System.

Presenter Nick Stengl is an instrument and multi-engine flight instructor and an Enroute Controller at Denver ARTCC. He began flight instructing at the University of North Dakota in 2001. Since then he has worked at Cirrus Designs as a CSIP, Minneapolis ARTCC and is currently working in the Air Space and Procedures office at Denver ARTCC. In addition to his duties in the Airspace department, he currently controls traffic over the western part Colorado.
