Brief Description:

No one wants to think about an aviation accident ... especially pilots!  However some forethought and pre- planning may save the lives of you and your passengers if something goes wrong and forces you down in mountainous / hostile terrian.  CHP Helo Pilot Shawn Bainbridge will educate attendees on:

  • What kind of personal survival kit everyone should carry?
  • What are the best ways to get rescuers to find you?
  • What initial first aid, and survival steps should you take?
  • When an aviation asset does find you what should you expect from the helo?
  • 1 hour lecture on rescue, survival, first aid, and signalling; and then a tour of the CHP Helo; and  live demo of the helo rescue hoist, how to put on the rescure harness etc.

California Highway Patrol Northern Division Air Operations Pilot Shawn Bainbridge is a 7000 commercial pilot; Flying Helicopters for the CHP for 17 years; previously a US Army CH47 Chinook Combat Pilot; and EMT for 21 years, and a CFI/MEI both Helicopter and Fixed Wing;  Shawn recieved his private pilot rating her at Benton (O85)
