Speaker(s):

Brief Description:

“New Flight Plan Format in the NextGen Environment" by Christophe Masiero – The FAA recently postponed the transition to the ICAO flight plan format to the end of the year.  Christophe will explain reasons for the postponement and discuss differences from the current domestic format. He will discuss preparing and filing with the new format using examples in ForeFlight and Garmin Pilot applications.

Christophe is a 1,400+ pilot with Glider, Sea Plane and UAV ratings. He owns a Cessna Cardinal RG, belongs to a number of aviation organizations and is President of the Carolina Aero Club.

"Ramp Inspections - What You Need to Know" by Eddie Shields - As part of the FAA's mandate to promote aviation safety, FAA inspectors conduct random inspections to ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations. They are intended to be straight forward.

Eddie will discuss what the typical inspection involves including presentation of identification by the Inspector, what inspections the Inspector is authorized to make and suggestions for the pilot to help reduce the time and scope of the inspection.

Eddie is a senior member of the FAA Charlotte Flight Standards District Office and the Charlotte FAASTeam Program Manager.

"Weather Considerations - Rules to Live By" by Bruce Johnston - As pilots we appreciate that weather is a critical consideration for how, when and if we even fly. Bruce will discuss some common sense "Rules" for pilots to live by including personal minimums, pre-flight planning and in-flight decision making. Understanding and use of these concepts will hopefully keep all of us from becoming an NTSB statistic.

Bruce is approaching his 50th year of flying, is the Chief Flight Instructor for FlyCarolina and the Lead FAASTeam Represenative for the Monroe airport.
