Title:
Electricity for Pilots
Topic:
The Sequel to the Prequel Electricity 172
Date and Time:
Wednesday, June 14, 2017, starting at 19:00 Pacific Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Ben Taber
Brief Description:

It's sometimes said that all you need for flight is a wing and a prayer. Of course, many other things are a big help. Engines, for one. Flight controls. But what about electricity? Although the basic flight controls and instruments of many planes don't really require it, electricity does many useful things. It powers radios, lights, transponders, autopilots, GPS units, and even can recharge your iPhone in flight. Modern flight wouldn't be possible without it.

As pilots, we study electrical systems in depth during primary flight training and each time we transition into flying a new aircraft. How much of that do you remember? Would you know what to do in the event of an unusual situation, malfunction or failure? Do you know the difference between volts and amps? Do you know what a circuit breaker is actually doing?

San Carlos Flight Center welcomes back experienced check airman and training Captain Ben Taber, who has pulled together some of the most challenging electrical issues.  Capt. Taber will introduce us to "Electricity for Pilots" and review electrical use in everyday flight, static electricity buildup and discharge, and discuss possible failure scenarios and resolutions for each.

Join us for Ben Taber's seriously humorous take on general aviation and dive deeper into your pilot knowledge bank at this fun and challenging seminar.

Bennett Taber is a check airman and training captain with over 20 years and 12,000 hours of air charter experience throughout the western United States. His first 500 hours of flying were conducted in Alaska. Capt. Taber manages flight operations and charter sales for Dreamline Aviation in the San Francisco Bay Area and is a Dreamline Training Captain in Beech King Air aircraft.
