Title:
FAASTeam Safety Seminar / RSAT
Topic:
Effective Radio Communications & Mountain Flying
Date and Time:
Wednesday, April 12, 2017, starting at 19:00 Central Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Sioux Falls ATC, Jeffry R. Boe, Steven R. Hoogerhyde
Brief Description:

Operations at towered controlled airports requires effective communications.  Because air traffic control (ATC) coordinates traffic at towered airports, pilots follow different procedures than at non-towered airports.  This safety seminar will be your opportunity to discuss current issues and concerns at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport.  This event will include information and feedback from the Runway Safety Action Team (RSAT).  Air traffic controllers are there to provide a safe operating environment for airport/airspace users and now is your time to ask questions from the Sioux Falls ATC.  Speakers will be from the Sioux Falls Air Traffic Control Tower.

Ramp communications between vehicles and ATC is critical for those maintenance technicians also, especially when conducting aircraft engine testing associated with certification and inspection work.  Mr. Jeff Boe, FAASTeam Program Manager will be conducting a presentation regarding effective ground communications.

Understanding Aircraft Performance & Limitations are crucial elements to flying safely, especially at higher elevation airports.  Understanding your own personal performance & limitations are just as important as understanding your aircraft performance & limitations.  So many pilots don't associate their personal proficiency with the understanding of aircraft performance & limitations.  This safety seminar will explore the human element as it relates to the practical application of decision making.  Mr. Steve Hoogerhyde, FAASTeam Program Manager will be conducting a presentation on mountain flying and the dangers associated with not planning effectively for higher elevation performance.
