Flying through SF Bay Area airspace requires a high degree of situational awareness and sophisticated radio skills. And yet, radio communication is rarely taught as a specific subject during private pilot training. Usually, new pilots just absorb what they hear on the frequency around them, both good and bad. Although some radio techniques are covered in ground school, rarely do student pilots get the time devoted to demystifying this often-confusing subject.
SCFC’s 4-hour Radio Communication Workshop is meant to bridge the gap, to help newer pilots understand the structure of radio calls and how to improve their own radio skills, with plenty of chance to practice their skills. Herb Patten, AGI and Dan Dyer, CFI will walk workshop participants through a foundation of radio communication phraseology and use, from the basics through advanced ATC services. The workshop will be a variety of lecture, classroom exercises, and group work analyzing recorded radio calls from actual ATC communications. Learn how to make radio communication easier and safer for all pilots.
The workshop begins at 10:00am at San Carlos Flight Center main classroom and continues until 3:00pm, and is open to anyone.
