Title:
Hangar Talk Saturdays (KVNY) - You Do Not Know What You Do Not Know - Part 21
Topic:
Recognizing Hidden Aviation Hazards, Knowledge Gaps, and Risks Through Experience and Decision Making
Speaker(s):
Richard Mend - ATP SEL/MEL CFI-AI FAASTeam Representative
Brief Description:
What aviation hazards have you never considered simply because you did not know they existed? Some of the most valuable lessons in aviation come from unexpected situations, overlooked details, and experiences that challenge what pilots believe they already know.
Join FAASTeam Representative Richard Mend for another installment of his popular aviation safety discussion series, You Do Not Know What You Do Not Know. Drawing upon decades of flying and instructional experience, Richard will explore lesser-known aviation hazards, common misconceptions, operational surprises, and practical lessons that can help pilots recognize risks before they become accidents. This presentation encourages pilots of all experience levels to question assumptions, expand their knowledge, and strengthen their aeronautical decision making.

Why Attend:
Even experienced pilots encounter situations that reveal gaps in their knowledge or understanding. Recognizing these blind spots is an essential part of maintaining proficiency and preventing accidents. This seminar provides an opportunity to learn from real-world aviation experiences, challenge familiar assumptions, and discover practical safety lessons that may not be emphasized during routine flight training.
