Brief Description:
Join us for an enlightening presentation: "Planning A Safe IFR Cross-Country Flight in Mountainous Terrain".
First, we will present the FAASTeam presentation "Use Of Weather Information" which brings to light that different online weather sources can present different weather information, the need to analyze the different pieces of weather information and how it could impact the flight, determine the safe course of action, and determine possible alternative plans.
Second, will be a study and open group discussion of a proposed IFR Cross-Country flight across the Appalachian mountains between Chattanooga, TN and Greensboro, NC. The group will be presented with previously recorded weather reports from approved online weather sources including Prog Charts, radar images, AIRMETS, cloud data, wind data, METARS, TAFS, PIREPS, and more. The group will analyze the data presented and determine if the trip is feasible, the route options observing terrain considerations, and alternative plans.
