Title:
NAFI 2026 - Using VR to Accelerate Flight Training
Topic:
This Presentation Explores How VR Functions as a Powerful Tool, Bridging the Gap Between Lessons With Guided Practice
Date and Time:
Friday, July 24, 2026, starting at 13:00 Central Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Jim Carroll
Brief Description:

For decades, CFIs have relied on simulators for a narrow set of training tasks—basic attitude instrument work, emergency procedures, and select IFR skills. Valuable, yes—but limited. High-fidelity Virtual Reality is changing that equation entirely. With affordable VR now widely accessible, flight training no longer must stop when the student leaves the airport. CFIs can assign structured VR sessions between lessons, allowing students to repeat maneuvers, build muscle memory, and develop spatial awareness in an immersive home environment. No more waiting a week for the next flight to refine slow flight or nail a pattern entry. This presentation explores how VR serves as a powerful continuity tool—bridging gaps between lessons through purposeful, guided practice in slow flight, stalls, traffic pattern work, navigation, and emergency procedures.
