Flying in the mountainous terrain of Colorado, Robin Clearman, private, instrument-rated pilot with a mountain flying certification, encountered a critical situation caused by reduced air density at high altitude. He will discuss the conditions leading up to the emergency, the split-second decisions that had to be made, and how he executed a controlled crash landing to maximize safety. This presentation will highlight the unique challenges of mountain flying, the importance of preparedness, and key takeaways for pilots operating in high altitude environments.
