Title:
Safely Crossing the Atlantic in an Unmodified Piper Archer
Topic:
Transatlantic Flight Planning for GA Aircraft
Speaker(s):
Adele Basturk
Brief Description:
Adele will share with us her recent experience taking a brand new Piper Archer from the States all the way to India over the course of just 9 days. In addition to flight planning, she will share some of the weather challenges; working with ATC when outside of VHF radio range; approach and landing at airports unfamiliar with GA aircraft; flight planning considerations; and a ferry pilots checklist and emergency preparations. Oh, and what would you do when ATC reports a 30kt wind shear on final and asks if you really want to try landing there? While many of us may have no plans to do such a long GA flight, these variety of challenges provides a learning opportunity for all pilots.
