Topic:
Glider Flight Training and Safety
Speaker(s):
Joseph Palmisano, CFI-G. CT Soaring Association
Brief Description:
An Introduction to Glider Flying for the Power Pilot is designed to provide the power pilot with an understanding of sailplane aerodynamics, lift sources, and energy management, enabling sustained time aloft and cross-country glider flights. These factors are compared to powered flight. In addition, glider preflight, launch, flight on tow, pattern entry and landing will be discussed with an emphasis on aircraft preflight, check lists, exchange of controls, and aircraft separation in the pattern at a non-controlled airfield with mixed use air traffic such as Windham Airport.
