For our Sept EAA Chapter 92 meeting, join us for a technical tutorial on the progress, issues, and current status of the long-running and difficult effort to replace the current 100LL avgas with a universally acceptable, but elusive, unleaded alternative.

NOTE: We will also hear a report from our two EAA Air Academy campers, Marcus and Daniel, about their week-long camp this summer in Oshkosh.

The 100LL replacement talk will cover:

  • A brief history of lead phaseout from mogas (automotive gasoline)
  • Early unleaded avgas development efforts
  • FAA launches again: Piston Aviation Fuels Initiative
  • First 100 unleaded STC is granted

About our Speaker: Paul Millner

Paul Millner has spent 38 years at Chevron, the last decade involved in unleaded avgas research. Since retiring, he has worked for both AOPA and the FAA on unleaded avgas issues. He has provided pro bono consultation to both Swift founder John Rusek and GAMI.  He has written a dozen articles on unleaded avgas, in AOPA Pilot, Aviation Consumer, and Kitplanes.

Paul is a cofounder of the Cessna Cardinal type club, 25 years ago… and bases his two Cardinals at OAK.

Paul is still involved in unleaded avgas development, and of course attending fun things like Airventure in Oshkosh.
