Introduction

Runway Safety embodies a safe flight — both at its start and at its conclusion. It continues to be one of the FAA's highest priorities and encompasses pilots, air traffic controllers and airport vehicle drivers. - https://www.faa.gov/airports/runway_safety/

Runway incursions are a serious safety concern, and have involved air carrier aircraft, military aircraft, general aviation (GA), and pedestrian vehicles. Several runway incursions have resulted in collisions and fatalities. The objective of this course is to cover any gaps that may have occurred during your training, and/or review knowledge that may have been forgotten.  At the end of this course, you should incorporate this training into your safety culture for the safe operation of your aircraft/vehicle.

Tarmac Tales has been developed to be self-study for the learner.  Additionally, there is a practical application flight activity that can be accomplished with a certified flight instructor (CFI) to practice what has been taught in order to understand and remember the learning.

While Tarmac Tales is comprehensive, it is not all inclusive. This is why working with a CFI is so important. A CFI can find or create teachable moments in the flight training activity.  Teachable moments present opportunities to convey information in a way that is relevant, effective, and memorable for you.

To complete Tarmac Tales, learner should go through each Chapter and Section.  After completing Tarmac Tales, the learner should meet with a CFI.

Thank you for helping to make a difference in aviation safety by providing practical training for the learner.  Proficiency training is an extremely beneficial experience for an airman.  The objective of Tarmac Tales is to help the airman gain proficiency and confidence operating at towered airports.  Additionally, the training should be thorough enough to identify any additional deficiencies and address them as well.

Tarmac Tales has been developed to be self-study for the learner followed by a detail discussion and instruction by a CFI.  As a CFI we encourage you to take this course yourself to become completely familiar with it.
