The AOPA Air Safety Institute’s Focused Flight Review profiles present a dynamic, three-step scenario-based training opportunity for pilots to complete a flight review in a systematic yet engaging and flexible way.
This profile, designed specifically for seaplane pilots, includes emphasis on maneuvering in dynamic flight environments with extra attention paid to seaplane specific topics such as assessing water conditions, docking and undocking, and considerations for airframe icing.
In the first step, the pilot and flight instructor will set goals and expectations, assign any self-study materials, and select a challenging cross-country route to be planned as part of the scenario. Flight instructors may assign their own route or utilize one of the sample routes provided. In the second step, the pilot and instructor will “chair-fly” the flight to review a wide range of topics from regulations to airspace to specific aircraft information. Step three is an exciting flight that uses a navigation exercise to lead into maneuvers and emergency procedures. Following the flight, the pilot and instructor will conduct a detailed debrief and develop the pilot’s proficiency plan of action.
