"Traffic Systems"
Wednesday, July 27, 2016 19:00 Pacific Daylight Time

Located at:
San Carlos Flight Center
655 Skyway Road
Suite 215
San Carlos, CA 94070

Description:

TCAS and TIS-B and TAS, oh my! Many of our aircraft are now equipped with traffic awareness systems, but how do these systems work, and how do the many varieties differ? These systems do not show all traffic all the time, but when and where can these limitations strike?

In this seminar, SCFC technology guru and CFI Brian Eliot will guide an examination of the most common traffic systems available in small aircraft. He will discuss what is generically called TAS, along with the FAA-defined TIS and TIS-B systems. He will also compare presentation symbology, service volumes, and relate system use to transponder and radar advisory service rules. Good radio communication is of core importance at SCFC, so the seminar will include a special emphasis on appropriate radio phraseology when making traffic calls.

Join us to learn what you need to know to make these avionics a safety feature of your next VFR or IFR flight, instead of an in-flight distraction.

Brian Eliot is San Carlos Flight Center’s resident expert for IFR training and Garmin G1000 avionics. He has been flying since 1995 and received all his training in the Bay Area. Brian previously worked as a broadcast engineer, a software developer, and taught computer science at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He regularly presents at San Carlos Flight Center safety seminars and has a reputation for making complex concepts easy to learn and understand.
