Title:
EAA VMC Club Meeting at EAA Chapter 448 - Mastering the Art of Aviation Through Senario-Based Discu
Topic:
'The Bold Face in Practice” -- A Scenario-Based Discussion of Dealing with An Unexpected Inflight Situation
Date and Time:
Tuesday, March 17, 2020, starting at 19:00 Pacific Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Travis Carney, EAA Chapter 448 President and VMC Club Coordinator
Brief Description:

This month's real-world scenario topic is “The Bold Face in Practice” – In cruise flight, suddenly a major emergency occurs in your airplane and your preparation for this situation is put to the test. A professionally produced video from EAA VMC Club will describe the emergency scenario and then drop it in our laps for a moderated discussion. What would you do if confronted with this emergency? Are you ready to deal with this in the airplane you fly? How can you prepare yourself now for emergencies that could happen? Attendees will participate in this scenario-based discussion of dealing with an unexpected inflight situation, sharing knowledge and experience with the group. EAA VMC Club meetings are lively, informative, thought-provoking, and will keep you coming back for more.

Hot dogs, refreshments, and hangar talk start by 6:30 p.m., followed by the interactive EAA VMC Club meeting at 7:00 p.m.

Join us every month, on the 3rd Tuesday of the month, as EAA Chapter 448 VMC Club meets to delve into a new real-world safety and proficiency scenario.

Location of Seminar:
Cable Airport - EAA Chapter 448 building
1749 W 13th St., Upland, Ca
EAA Chapter 448 building
Upland, CA 91786
Directions to Venue:

The EAA Chapter 448 Building is on the north side of Cable Airport. Do not use the main airport entrance for this event. Enter at the northeast gate off Benson Avenue (northeast corner of the field and next to the Holliday Rock Corporate Office).

For directions to the northeast gate, enter “Cable Airport Hangars” in Google Maps. Do not use the airport address for directions as that will lead to the wrong entrance and wrong side of the airport for this meeting.

After entering the northeast Benson Avenue gate, turn left and then immediate right to go around the small chain-link fence, then proceed west on the taxiway about 800 feet down the hangar rows until seeing the EAA sign on the EAA Chapter 448 building. The EAA building is at the east end of the southern-most row of enclosed hangars, which is north of the “shade hangars”.

If flying in, there are a few tie-downs on the north side of the runway (just south of the “shade hangars”), which is close to the EAA building. Bring chocks because the ramp is sloped. There is also additional transient parking south of the runway to the east of the main airport building. A perimeter road is walkable around the end of Runway 24 to the north side.

What is the EAA VMC Club?

As part of the FAA Safety Team program, EAA VMC Club, through EAA’s global Chapter structure, provides participants with informative and interactive WINGS presentations by presenting scenario-based organized “hangar flying” discussions focused on building flying knowledge and skills.  EAA VMC Club promotes a safety culture through continuing education and believes that we develop safety and proficiency through education, preparation, and real-life experience. Monthly meetings offer an opportunity for participants to share in-flight experiences and valuable safety lessons.

For more information about the EAA VMC Club, please visit http://www.eaa.org/VMCclub

Membership in EAA national and EAA Chapter 448 is encouraged but not required to participate in this meeting.

Do you need to bring anything?

First, bring your thoughts, experiences, or lessons learned.  This meeting is very interactive. Participation by the group is a fundamental element of every EAA VMC Club meeting. Others have found it helpful to bring along a copy of their aircraft flight manual, GPS manual, and charts.  If you navigate with a tablet, you can bring it along too.

Who can attend?

This meeting is open to all who are interested in flying, including prospective pilots, current pilots, rusty pilots, student pilots, mechanics, mechanics-in-training, and flying companions. Dogs are welcome if they are well-behaved and will tolerate crowds, airplane noise, and other dogs.

EAA Chapter 448 provides a variety of educational activities throughout the month and everyone is invited. Visit bit.ly/EAA448Activities for a printable flyer to share or post at your location:
