Brief Description:

The Treasure Coast FAASTeam is proud to host a two-hour seminar presented by Dr. William Hensley and Raul A. Salazar, Ph.D., CFI.  Dr. Hensley recently made a successful forced landing on US 1, near Hobe Sound, with his Bonanza F33A.  Bill will brief us on his experience and takeaways from the event. Mr. Salazar’s presentation is to emphasis safety around traffic patterns, communications and phraseology, regulatory requirements, and recommended operational procedures used by drones and Gyroplanes around an airport without a control tower, or an airport with a control tower that operates only part time. 

The Orlando FSDO-15, along with your Treasure Coast FAASTeam, encourages all aviation minded people to attend our every third Thursday of the month safety seminars.  It doesn’t matter the certificate or rating you hold, if you know somebody with an interest in aviation, whether it’s your mechanic, another pilot, your right seat buddy or just somebody with as much interest in aviation safety as you do, please bring that friend with you to one of our next seminars.

Each meeting is held in a classroom inside the FlightSafety Academy maintenance hangar which is located just west of the Vero Beach Regional Airport Main Terminal Bldg.  Enter through the west side of the hangar, meeting is in Classroom M.  Plenty of parking for cars and aircraft.  For those of you flying in, park by the C.J. Cannon's restaurant at main terminal and walk west 100 yards.

Dr. William Hensley has been flying since 1971, where he earned is Private Pilot certificate while in the US Air Force, then in 1996, he became Instrumented rated.  He purchased his F33A Bonanza in 1998.  Bill has 3100 hrs total time, 332 hrs Instrument and 2333 hrs complex.

Dr. Raul Salazar's accomplished background encompasses consistent success as a CTO/Software Engineer, educator, and innovator on the bleeding edge of technology innovation.  He has worked with prestigious companies including NASA, Motorola, IBM, HP, American Express, Nova Southeastern University and many others.  Dr. Salazar has authored over 160 course titles for custom instructor-led training including online classes for companies and universities. He has been building autonomous systems since 2005, as well as software for airplanes and helicopter simulators. He has been flying RC helicopters for 14 years.  He is a certified FAA helicopter and gyroplane sport pilot as well as a Part 107 certified remote pilot (UAS) with many hours of flight time logged. His experience with drones encompasses precision farming, engineering, data collection, infrared inspections (Power Line, Solar Panels, Roof, Pipe Line, Power Sub stations), Real Estate Photography and Video (Residential, commercial, and construction), Ortho photography, drone setup and configuration, drone software embedded development, drone training (Part 107 and flying). He is an adjunct professor for Nova Southeastern University and Broward College. CTO and President of JHL Technologies. Raul is also an adjunct professor at Florida Institute of Technology (FIT), Melbourne, FL, and a Sport Pilot CFI for Gyroplanes.
