Driving:  Exit 101 Freeway at Los Posas, head south on Los Posas. Turn right at traffic light at Pleasant Valley.  Turn right at traffic light at Airport Way. Dept of Airport Building is last building on the left where Airport Way dead ends at Durley.  Flying: A three minute walk from the walk-through gate adjacent to Channel Island Aviation.  Walk out to Durley, turn left on Durley.  The Dept of Airports Building is on your right at the intersection of Durley & Airport Way.

Recognizing and Handling Instrument Failures 

with Mark King and Brian Schiff

A VC99's Pilot Proficiency Class

Wednesday, Mar 4  7:00 - 9:30 PM

This class will cover techniques and procedures to help you recognize if primary flight instruments are inaccurate or inoperative—which is a requirement to obtain an instrument rating per the Airman Certification Standards (ACS), but may not have been practiced since you obtained your instrument rating. Early recognition is vital to avoiding a potentially deadly loss of control. We will discuss how to recognize and handle such failures in such a way to dramatically increase the safety of the flight and improve the odds of having a successful outcome.

This is a class for instrument students and pilots with instrument ratings.

Instructors:

Mark King, CFI, CFII, Master CFI Aerobatic. A full time Gold Seal CFII and Master CFI Aerobatic, Mark specializes in Emergency Maneuver Training, Tailwheel and Aerobatic instruction. He is based at CP Aviation in Santa Paula (KSZP). He has given over 7500 hours of dual instruction. He also has flown extensively in Alaska and recently taught Emergency Maneuvers and Tailwheel in Poland. He is a member of the Society of Aviation Flight Educators (SAFE) and the North American T6 formation group called the Condor Squadron. He teaches Private Pilots, Instrument, Commercial, Tailwheel, Emergency Maneuver Training, and Aerobatics.

Brian Schiff, ATP, CFI, CFII, MEI, AGI, IGI, is a captain on an Airbus 320 for a major US airline and is type-rated on the Boeing 727, 757, 767, DC-9, MD-80, Airbus 321, CL-65, LR-JET, and G-V. Schiff’s roots are deeply planted in general aviation where he has flown a wide variety of aircraft. He holds several flight instructor ratings and is recognized for his enthusiasm and ability to teach in way that simplifies complex procedures and concepts. He is a member of the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE), a member of the board of directors of National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI), and has been actively instructing since earning his flight and ground instructor certificates in 1985. Schiff has been an FAA-designated examiner. He attended San Jose State University, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and his Master of Science Degree in Aviation Safety from the University of Central Missouri. He regularly presents seminars about aviation safety and techniques to student and professional pilots.

This program is one of a series in the Ventura County 99s 20th Annual Pilot Proficiency Classes, an annual series of approximately 20-25  seminars and programs from February to May. There is a fee for all classes except the February 19th "Reflections of a Test Pilot" with Tom Morgenfeld.  Please go to our registration web site at http://www.vc99sclasses.com  and click on the class schedule tab for fee information which appears at the end of the class title.   The FAA does not permit us to include fee information here.  The web site also provides additional information about each class and the instructors.

Some classes fill to capacity quickly. Please register for the seminar at least 24 hours in advance to ensure we have seats for everyone at  http://www.vc99sclasses.com.  We cannot guarantee a seat  to people who do not register in advance.  If seats are available, we will gladly accept payments and registration from walk-ins at the door. 

Unless otherwise indicated on the registration web site http://www.vc99sclasses.com, all classes meet in the upstairs meeting room of the Department of Airports, 555 Airport Way, Camarillo, CA 93010, on the field at KCMA.  There is no wireless network available to attendees in the classroom.  If you want Internet access during a class, you will need to use your own data plan or bring or activate a hotspot.
