There are several nuances of flying in the mountains that we need to be aware of and understand.
This presentation on Mountain Flying is a product of the Colorado Pilots Association and is geared toward pilots flying in the high terrain of Colorado and the surrounding states. However, the information provided relates to our flying into north Georgia, North Carolina, the Virginias and to some parts of Arkansas. Also there is information pertinent to our flying in Florida during the hotter days of the year.
In this seminar, we will hold a guided group discussion of the Colorado Pilots Association presentation, view some safety videos produced by the FAA, AOPA and others about Mountain Flying and, as a group, we will discuss some mountain flying accidents and our experiences in Mountain Flying.
Pilots of all experience levels are welcome including; Student pilots, Newly Rated pilots, Experienced pilots, Rusty pilots and CFI's. Non-pilots that are interested in aviation and aviation safety are also welcome to attend. The FAASTeam Seminars at KPCM are held in conjunction with EAA Chapter 1178 VMC and IMC Club meetings. This provides organized "Hangar Flying" focused on building a safety consciousness among pilots. Since these seminars are part of the FAA Safety Program, they provide informative presentations along with WINGS credit. Membership in an EAA Chapter, or an EAA VMC or IMC Club is not required to participate.
