JOURNEY TO AIRCRAFT OWNERSHIP BY BUILDING IT YOURSELF

with RICK WOODS

Everyone who dreams of flying, ultimately needs a steed to ride into the sky.  After many years of renting, it was clear Rick Woods wanted to take the plunge into aircraft ownership.  In his case, by building a Vans RV-7 experimental aircraft.

Understanding the difference between Experimental and Standard Certificated aircraft is vital.  Rules of building and operating experimental aircraft involve limitations, risks, commitment, costs and personal skills.

Come hear Rick’s journey of getting his steed into the realm of flying.

About our Speaker:

Rick Woods is a 1000 hour instrument rated private pilot who built a Van’s RV-7 in his garage.  He picked up his love of aviation from his father and went through the gamut of aviation related activities (building models and RC airplanes, “flying” flight simulators, etc.). Unfortunately, bad eyesight meant teaching electronics in the U. S. Air Force rather than flying.   Since the age of 42, with private certificate in hand, Rick has enjoyed a variety of flying, from family vacations to mountain search and rescue.  Now, with his RV-7, he is enjoying learning aerobatics.  Rick is the engineering manager for a small company in Irvine and has taught computer programming at UCI and Saddleback College.
