Summer is almost upon us. Many of those desirable destinations will take us into high temperatures and/or high altitudes. A proper understanding of the theory and application of density altitude concepts is required to maintain safe and efficient operations.  

Topics covered will include:

* Definition of density altitude

* Calculation of density altitude

* Humidity effects

* Effects of density altitude on aircraft power and performance

* Why the same indicated airspeed (and therefore drag) requires more power at high density altitude than it does at sea level

* Why density altitude increases landing distance as well as takeoff distance

* Why the climb performance of a turbo-charged aircraft still suffers from density altitude...even when the turbo is able to hold sea level manifold pressure

* Good operational practices to employ when planning and executing operations in high density altitude conditions.

This is a uniquely comprehensive treatment of the density altitude issue.
