As pilots, we are introduced to a lot of weather theory in a short time and seldom really understand it beyond checking it’s parameters such as wind speed and direction, barometric pressure, and temperature as well as knowing  the locations of thunderstorms, turbulence and icing. But do we really understand why the wind is blowing from a particular direction, why the thunderstorms are where they are or which clouds are more hazardous for icing than others.

Dave Kramer as been on a 3 year journey following obtaining his instrument rating exploring weather theory and why the atmosphere behaves the way it does.  Many of you have attended his seminars and have joined him. In this workshop, Dave will discuss all the weather theory a pilot will need to know and how to the think of the atmosphere not only horizontally but vertically.  He will also use the Skew T Log p diagram as a tool to examine the vertical profile of the atmosphere which will really aid in understanding weather.

A good pilot is always learning and sharing your knowledge and participating in this weather discussion will leave you knowing more weather than when you arrived.

Dave Kramer MD, an ophthalmologist for over 30 years, is an instrument rated, tailwheel, complex and high performance endorsed commercial SEL pilot as well as a basic and instrument ground instructor with an interest in weather. He has been flying since 2012, has over 1000 hours of which over 400 have been in the IFR system.  He also enjoys long cross country flying, night flying and flying in the LA area.

This event qualifies for FAA Wings credit.

Directions to Room: Pilots who fly in should park in transient parking on the opposite side of the field and expect to walk about 10 minutes (.5 mile) to the Flight Center. Suite 215 is upstairs in the northwest corner. On occasion, rides may be prearranged through San Carlos Aviation and Supply.
