Brief Description:

This presentation and discussion is focused on landing out and why it is an important planning component of cross county soaring.  This presentation is MANDATORY for those wishing to be checked out for using club equipment for cross country flights.  We will begin with a discussion of landing places other than your homeport and move on to an overview of the local options along with why it is important to update that information.  The presentation will provide information on how to select a field for landing, when is it decision time or decision height above the ground, how to determine the wind direction on the surface, and the procedures to follow when landing out.  We will discuss retrieving the equipment from off airport landings and soaring to other airports.

The presentation will offer suggestions on how to rig you vehicle along with instructions on how to rig the club's gear as part of retrieval from an off airport landing.  We will discuss what to bring and what to prepare for when recovering the aircraft.  After landing out - a steak dinner?  The aircraft isn't safe until the post flight inspection is complete and perhaps it needs a complete inspection by a mechanic before its next launch.
