Title:
Monthly meeting of Columbus EAA IMC Club Mastering the Art of Instrument Navigation
Topic:
How to use the WeatherSpork app to more accurately and confidently plan your departure time and altitude.
Date and Time:
Wednesday, September 26, 2018, starting at 19:00 Eastern Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Scott Dennstaedt, CFI
Brief Description:

Weather is by far the greatest physical factor that affects pilots; and weather-related accidents, not associated with strong surface winds, are almost always fatal.  Mother Nature doesn't care how many hours are in your logbook.  The key is to find the time when Mother Nature is on her best behavior along your proposed route. Whether you call 1-800-WXBRIEF, receive a personalized briefing through the FSS or Smartphone app, the briefing process is rigid and single threaded, as it is based on known initial conditions and the estimated time of departure (ETD). Changing the ETD, even by a few hours, may ultimately result in acceptable flight conditions. However, the current briefing process is a cumbersome, trial-and-error-based process that requires you, as the pilot, to sort through innumerable and complex variables to find the most opportune time to depart. Moreover, this complexity creates opportunities for errors.  Come find out how the new WeatherSpork app in an instant greatly simplifies determining the most opportune time to depart.
