Brief Description:
Our first topic is a discussion of "Stable Approach and Go-around". The General Aviation Joint Steering Committee (GAJSC) has determined that loss of control accidents during landing can be avoided with stabilized approaches.
We will consider teaching points recommended by the GAJSC to properly perform stabilized approaches, to avoid destabilizing influences, and to immediately safely go around when appropriate. We will also discuss our own experiences teaching stabilized approaches and safely going around.
Our second topic is "CFIs and the Compliance Philosophy".
This topic is a discussion of FAA's Compliance Philosophy which is a change in the FAA's emphasis from punitive enforcement to "Compliance Actions" that emphasize correction of unsafe behavior. We will discuss the criteria used by the FAA in determining whether a transgression receives a "kinder and gentler" response or the more severe "violation" action.
