Pilots are expected to conduct flights safely and remain in compliance with the Federal Aviation Regulations. The FAA conducts ramp checks to ensure pilots maintain these expectations. Though generally straightforward, some ramp checks may end up with enforcement actions against the pilot. This seminar provides guidance and suggestions on how to properly handle a FAA ramp check and the NEW option that inspectors have to handle them in case they don't turn out well.
The FAA's NEW compliance philosophy focuses on avoiding penalizing pilots for inadvertent violations, and instead using the cases to gather data that can help predict and prevent future problems. The goal of these changes is to encourage open and honest communication and information exchange between pilots and the FAA. A similar approach has been used in commercial aviation for more than decade, and the FAA claims that system has helped reduce risk in U.S. commercial aviation by 83 percent in the past 10 years. An open and transparent exchange of information requires mutual cooperation and trust that can be challenging to achieve in a traditional, enforcement-focused regulatory model.
Inspector Adam Such of the Scottsdale FSDO delivers a fun, energetic and down-to-earth presentation on encountering “the FEDs”. Inspector Such holds an ATP and is a FAA Gold Seal and NAFI Master CFI with instructor ratings in both airplanes and helicopters (and soon glider), allowing his increased outreach and connection to most General Aviation airmen. A homegrown native of AZ, Inspector Such knows the AZ airspace, local operators, and mostly how to enjoy some of the best sunsets our AZ airports have to offer!
