Title:
Monthly Meeting of the Columbus Chapter EAA IMC Club (Mastering the Art of Instrument Navigation)
Topic:
Icing: The insidious and unforgiving nemesis to unwary aviators.
Date and Time:
Wednesday, February 28, 2018, starting at 19:00 Eastern Standard Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Judith Van Zante, Ph.D.
Brief Description:

NASA researchers have long recognized that unchecked ice accumulation affects an airplane’s lift, airflow, stability, and overall performance. They also acknowledge that flight crews, and especially GA pilots, may not fully understand the implications of flying in icing conditions. This presentation will focus on how general aviation IFR and VFR pilots can acquire, analyze, and evaluate icing sources before and during flight. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of taking off with a clean aircraft, the hazards of in-flight icing, and how to quickly detect and exit icing conditions. The goal is to help pilots make good decisions.
