Topic:
NWS Aviation Weather Products Review/Clarifying the Gray Areas of Regulations
Speaker(s):
Chris Outler, Justine Harrison
Brief Description:
National Weather Service Meteorologist Chris Outler gives us a refresher on METARs and TAFs as well as a review of regional winter aviation hazards. Chris will provide a review of the basics, interpretation of METARs and TAFs, as well as provide several examples. Application of this material can be used to mitigate potential weather hazards during flight planning, and encourage safe flying. Winter weather hazards prevalent in the southwestern states will be discussed.
FAA regulations seem very precise and legal. We spend time trying to learn and understand them. On first glance the FAA regulations appear very detailed and thorough. Then, after reading some of them you might have begun to wonder what was really meant--regulations and terms aren’t very precise. The FAA's solution to this is offered by the Regulations Division’s Legal Interpretations and Chief Counsel Opinions which are issued in response to requests for clarification. In this safety seminar, we will look at some of the more relevant legal interpretations and how they might impact our understanding of the FARs. Join Attorney and Pilot Ms Justine Harrison for this interesting topic.
