Title:
Flying Cross-Country (For Real)
Topic:
Flight Planning and safety considerations while flying from coast to coast.
Brief Description:
Ever thought about flying across the country and back? Join us for a discussion of the planning and execution of a flight from Palo Alto to Texas, Rhode Island, Wisconsin, Iowa, Colorado, Truckee, and back to Palo Alto. Over the course of that flight, our speaker, Alan Marcum, logged nearly 37 hours and 3 IMC approaches, and burned over 440 gallons of 100LL.
The speaker will address risk management at diverse airports on the same trip, cockpit resource management while operating in busy terminal areas, weather related decision making, go/no-go decision making for each leg, and the post-flight evaluation including potential adjustments to his personal minimums based on what he encountered at the various airports.
Alan Marcum, an instrument-rated private pilot, has been flying for over thirty years with 2,000 flight hours. He has flown in places ranging from Cambridge, U.K. to Lihue, Hawai'i, and in airplanes from a Tiger Moth and a Waco to a Malibu and a Mooney. He bases his Mooney at Palo Alto, where he learned to fly. Alan is a computer scientist by profession.
