Brief Description:
This unique ground course is part of the "Mountain Fury" event for Civil Air Patrol (CAP) members. The ground course portion is open to the public and meets requirements for the Federal Aviation Administration's WINGS Award Program. Attend all four classes and receive the Basic, Advanced, and Master level in the WINGS Award Program.

- 10:30am Mountain Flying - Mike Beason
- 11:30am Mountain Searching - Scott Giles
Buck Deweese will help you better understand the following:
- Temperature, Pressure, Density Altitude, Hypoxia, Sinus Effects, Flight After Extended Periods Of No Recent Mountain Flying Currency (GAJSC Topic of the Month), UV Radiation, and Personal Equipment
Craig Goodrich will discuss te following:
- Slopes, Winds, Turbulence, Clouds, Thunderstorms, and Weather Forecasts
Mike Beason will provide insight into the following:
- Downdrafts, Canyon Flying, Ridge Crossing, Course Reversals, Pilot Deviation Avoidance (GAJSC Topic of the Month), Sensory Illusions, Mountain Airport Operations, and Mountain Flying Safety
Scott Giles will speak from experiences in the following areas:
- ELT Searches, Grid Searches, Contour Searches, Specific Scanning Techniques for Difficult Areas, Lighting Effects, and Crew Selection Considerations
