Speaker(s):

Brief Description:

You are preparing to depart into a low overcast from an unfamiliar airport when Center asks “November 1234 Fox, can you maintain your own terrain and obstacle clearance through 6700?” If you aren’t sure how to answer, you are not alone. Many IFR pilots have a poor understanding of the requirements, procedures and best practices necessary to confidently plan an instrument departure particularly when there are obstacle departure procedures published. In this seminar, we will show you how to do this confidently and safely. By reviewing scenarios and examples of challenging departures, you will learn about diverse departures, ODPs, SIDS and more. We’ll also discuss how to anticipate and deal with emergencies that might arise in the early phase of an instrument flight.
