Brief Description:

What happens next when you land off airport?  This seminar is an eye opening experience and explores the search & rescue process with our local USAF-AUX and Civil Air Patrol representatives.  We will discuss the many ways CAP searches for you, the physical and mental challenges you will face, and ways to prepare yourself to survive well before you ever take-off.

“Major Peter McCutchen serves as a volunteer pilot of the USAF-AUX, Civil Air Patrol (CAP).  The Civil Air Patrol is an integral part of the United States’ Air Force TOTAL FORCE and provides approximately 90% of the in-land Search & Rescue support.  Major McCutchen has served as the Commanding Officer for the Jon E. Kramer Composite Squadron in Palo Alto CA, and has participated in more than 200 mission & training sorties throughout his 13 years in CAP.  Major McCutchen holds an FAA Private Pilot- Instrument rating with over 500 hours, and served as a United States Naval Air Warfare Aircrewman on the P-3C Orion with over 1400 hours.”

“Major Steven DeFord, MD is a 6 year veteran of the Civil Air Patrol.  He volunteers both locally in the San Francisco Bay Area coordinating operations, and on a statewide basis assisting with the training of CAP members throughout California.  He has participated in over 60 separate missions with the Civil Air Patrol in a variety of roles, ranging from Ground Team Leader to Mission Pilot to Incident Commander.  He is also an FAA Commercial Pilot- Instrument rating, with nearly 500 hours.”
