Brief Description:

On June 21, 2016, the Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration finalized the first operational rules for routine commercial use of small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS or “drones”), opening pathways towards fully integrating UAS into the nation’s airspace.  The new rule, which took effect on August 29, 2016 60 days after it is posted to the Federal Register, offers safety regulations for unmanned aircraft drones weighing less than 55 pounds that are conducting non-hobbyist operations.  Part 107 will not apply to model aircraft.  Model aircraft operators must continue to satisfy all the criteria specified in Section 336 of Public Law 112-95 (which will now be codified in Part 101), including the stipulation they be operated only for hobby or recreational purposes. If the modeler/hobbyist cannot fly in accordance with ALL the requirements in Section 336(Part 101) then they must operate under 107. A remote pilot with UAS rating may opt to operate his model aircraft under 107 even if he can comply with Public Law 112-95 Section 336 (Part 101). This seminar will cover the basics of 14 CFR 107.
