Title:
Bonanzas to Oshkosh The largest formation flight of civilian aircraft in the world
Topic:
Each summer, some 100 Beechcraft Bonanzas assemble and fly in formation to the EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Date and Time:
Tuesday, January 10, 2017, starting at 19:00 Pacific Standard Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Larry Gaines
Brief Description:

Bonanzas to Oshkosh began in 1990 when Wayne Collins and a few friends decided that, the only way to ensure camping together at Oshkosh, was to arrive together in formation. In time, this formation arrival has become an annual tradition, attracting Bonanza and Baron pilots nationwide. They train for the event, and look forward to the accomplishment and camaraderie of the experience of a formation arrival.

Our speaker is Larry Gaines. He has flown with the B2OSH group to Oshkosh every year since 2000. He started a training clinic for the formation arrival in Northern California. In 2007 he was asked to take over the organization of the nationwide B2OSH effort.

As an experienced formation flier, airshow participant and B2OSH leader, Larry has built constructive relationships with FAA and EAA representatives involved in ATC operations, airshow rules and safety issues.

Larry will tell us about FAA rules, training, and safety issues for formation flying. He will explain the special requirements and practices for safely flying in formation to Oshkosh. We will also hear some great stories, and learn about the added benefits to pilots who acquire formation flying skills. Questions are welcome, and interested pilots will be advised about training and informational resources.
